Caloundra Street Fair:
Homemade donuts, mouth-watering fresh street food, quality coffee, quirky fashions, artisan jewellery, kids’ activities and so much more. It’s all waiting at the Caloundra Street Fair held every Sunday along Bulcock Street in the CBD from 8am to 1pm.

Twilight Markets:
They’re taking a small break over Christmas but will be back to business as usual early in the new year. Once they do, make sure you come along for the great live music, fabulous food, arts and craft stalls and more. The Twilight Markets are held on the last Friday of each month along Bulcock Beach Esplanade from 5pm to 9pm.

A Holly Christmas:
The Events Centre Caloundra certainly know how to put on a show, and this festive season takes on a rock and roll flavour with the Buddy Holly Christmas Concert. Hear the Christmas classics: Santa Clause is Coming to Town, Jingle Bell Rock, Blue Christmas, Little Drummer Boy as well as some Buddy Holly rock ‘n’ roll classics like Peggy Sue, Rave On, Oh Boy and It’s So Easy. The show has had outstanding reviews everywhere it has toured, so don’t miss out. Check here for details.

Christmas Markets, Pelican Waters:
This Saturday (11 December) why not pay a visit to Pelican Waters Resort to pick up a bargain and support local creators at the handmade Christmas markets. They’re on at 38 Mahogany Drive from 8am to 1pm.

NightQuarter Christmas Carols:
Bring the family to NightQuarter for a night of Christmas festivities when the Birtinya market precinct comes alive with carols. The evening will include dancing with Rudolph, singing with Santa, Christmas carollers, live entertainment and fabulous food stalls. The carols will take place from 4pm on Saturday 18 December at 201/8 The Avenue, Birtinya.

Nothing Beats A Holiday!

As we get on with life as best we can adjusting to the “new normal” of a COVID-19 world, it is worth taking the time to appreciate the positive things that are happening around us as well.

A focus on the simple things in life, a re-prioritisation of the importance of lifestyle, a surge in domestic tourism helping the local economy and the ever-growing appeal of the southern Sunshine Coast as the perfect place to live, work and play, has provided a silver lining in these challenging times. The beaches, cafes and accommodation of Caloundra and surrounds have rarely been busier, while residential and rental properties are being snapped up soon as they hit the market as buyers and renters clamber for their own piece of paradise.

Our holiday business, Accom Caloundra, is in uncharted waters dealing with record bookings on a monthly basis. January and February are well above the corresponding periods last year, and future bookings for Easter are off the charts. We have had to employ more local people to meet the demand, upgrade our booking platforms to cope with the increased traffic and are urgently seeking more holiday rental properties to list.

When border closures first threw the tourism industry into chaos, we got onto the front foot designing and implementing our own campaigns to maximise visitation to the area. 

During the recent Brisbane lockdown, which brought a sudden flood of city dwellers to our doorstep, we responded in real time to accommodate the huge influx, including implementing our mandatory property ‘deep cleans’, where other providers could not.

We cannot speak highly enough of our property managers and the holiday team who have all gone beyond their call of duty to ensure the best possible outcomes for all, and we thank the Caloundra residents and businesses for making our visitors feel at home when they get here.

We have had a year to remember, filled with excellent milestones made all the more special considering the difficulties faced by all businesses as we adjust to the new normal of COVID-19. We celebrated staff anniversaries, welcomed new faces, achieved records in sales and property management and contributed to local community causes.

We would like to thank our wonderful staff for their dedication, skill and commitment in making 2020 such a positive and successful one for the agency.

Christmas still remains one of the busiest times of the year at Henzells and it will be business as usual for us over the majority of the holiday period. Our holiday opening hours are as follows:

We certainly can’t argue with the sentiment of the original 1970s advertisement for Illawong holiday flats in Caloundra. Just as the essential parts of a classic beach holiday have not changed, neither has the number one trusted name in property management for the region.

Henzells managed Illawong way back when TV was inclusive of the tariff and hot and cold water rated a special mention, and we are STILL looking after the property today as a permanent rental.

We love the fact that we have been part of Caloundra’s holiday memories for such a long period of time and it is very rewarding to get feedback such as the thank yous we receive from long-term clients who have been staying in our holiday accommodation for 50 years. We like to think of this as not only a testament to the beautiful, warm and welcoming holiday destination that is Caloundra, but also the continuous excellence in customer service over the years.

In the very early days, Henzells’ holiday customers would receive a free pineapple with their keys, and today we operate on much the same principles of making everyone feel as welcome as possible.

The markets are buzzing, beaches are beckoning and baristas are serving your favourite brew. In what has been a difficult year, there is something familiar and comforting to experience the holiday mood currently washing over the southern Sunshine Coast.

We have nothing but the utmost admiration for the local businesses who have risen to the unprecedented challenge of coping with COVID-19, and we hope they are rewarded with the strong and ongoing support from locals and visitors alike.

Bookings are flooding through Henzells’ accommodation business, Accom Caloundra, to the point where we are nearly at Christmas levels in terms of occupancy!

Due to the current border restrictions in place, we have gone out of our way to tap into the Queensland market by driving our own travel campaigns and ensuring properties are presented and maintained to the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene. These restrictions have also made some people decide to invest in a heavenly holiday at home as they have had to cancel their annual overseas or inter-state escape, while others are reacquainting themselves with our beautiful beaches having visited them in their childhood and are now building lasting family memories of their own.

Our Drive to Paradise campaign, which has been picked up by the Caloundra Business Alliance, has maximised Queensland visitors and, once again, we thank all local businesses for making everyone feel at home.

In fact, our winter holiday bookings are tracking higher than previous years and for the recent Brisbane long weekend we were forced to put up the ‘full house’ sign as record numbers of couples and families holiday close to home.

Challenging Conditions Bring out the Best

Challenging conditions can bring out the best in people and that certainly has been the case in our property management business, with our staff and owners alike.

From the onset of the pandemic when we were dealing with large scale holiday cancellations, to adapting to new operational protocols, and negotiating the ‘new normal’ as restrictions ease and new bookings pour in, the spirit of cooperation has been nothing short of amazing.

The owners of holiday properties have been extremely receptive to what has been required with the holiday public now demanding a new level of health and hygiene, above our previously already very high standards.

We have conducted a thorough sweep through of our portfolio of 160 holiday properties to ensure the strictest health measures are being met and exceeded, busily de-cluttering, deep cleaning and disinfecting to guarantee the best holiday experience possible for our guests.

We are the only local agency to have undertaken such a stringent cleaning regime, which has required a massive commitment from our property management team, for which we are very grateful. 

We are very fortunate to have the best of the best working with us to keep this side of the business adaptable and successful in perhaps the most challenge period in our 85 year history.

On the back of these actions and proactive Henzells’ marketing of our region to domestic travellers through our successful Drive to Paradise campaign and other measures, bookings have gone through the roof.

Digital bookings for June were up 143% on the previous month and forward bookings look very encouraging.

Henzells’ holiday business Accom Caloundra has responded to one of the most challenging periods in its history to record above average winter occupancies.

As the coastal paradise of the southern Sunshine Coast provides a beacon for cooped up Queenslanders under the careful easing of travel restrictions, we have gone out of our way to maximise visitation in these difficult times.

Henzells has invested considerably in various campaigns driving domestic tourism for the region and we have been rewarded with June occupancy rates which are higher than pre-COVID levels, spreading benefits throughout the entire community.

We have done this adhering closely to government policy which allowed for only essential bookings at the height of the lockdown and has ushered in a strict regime for cleanliness and hygiene for holiday homes, above our previous already very high standards.

Each step of the way as restrictions have been peeled back, firstly allowing travel within a 250km radius, then opening up to all of Queensland, we have done our utmost to put Caloundra on the map for holidaymakers. 

We thank all local businesses for making these visitors feel at home, and look forward to welcoming even more new faces when it is safe for our interstate friends to come see us again, which hopefully isn’t too far away.
